General Event Info
What exactly is The Haunted Oaks?
The Haunted Oaks is a community-driven Halloween spectacle where neighbors in the Royal Oaks community team up to transform their yards into elaborate, larger-than-life spooky displays. What started as a few decorated houses has grown into an annual destination featuring 20 to 30 fully decorated homes, custom props, synchronized light shows, sound systems, and animatronics.
Where is it located?
The homes are located within the Royal Oaks neighborhood of Woodbury, Minnesota, centered on Lamplight Drive.
When can we see the displays?
Displays are up for viewing October 1st through October 31st. Lights and animatronics typically turn on from dusk until 9:00 PM daily throughout October. The peak night is Halloween itself, October 31st, with trick-or-treating running from roughly 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
How much does it cost?
It is 100% free. The Haunted Oaks is entirely funded, built, and run by passion-driven neighbors who love the holiday and community spirit. Candy donations are always appreciated.
Parking, Traffic & Safety
Where should we park?
Because vehicle traffic on Lamplight Drive gets congested on Halloween, we highly recommend parking at Ojibway Park, Woodbury High School, Royal Oaks Elementary, or Wulff Funeral Home and walking in. These are excellent overflow options and just a short, safe walk from the main displays.
Is the neighborhood closed to traffic?
We strongly urge outside visitors to park and walk on Halloween evening to keep the streets clear and safe for the thousands of young trick-or-treaters roaming the blocks.
Is it safe for toddlers and young kids?
Yes. The Haunted Oaks is a family-friendly, community-focused environment. While some yards feature spooky animatronics, aliens, skeletons, or eerie sound effects, there are no live-actor jump scares or graphic gore. It is designed to be fun and magical for kids of all ages.
Trick-or-Treating & Getting Involved
Do you accommodate children with food allergies?
Yes. Many homes in the neighborhood actively participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project. These households offer non-food treats such as glow sticks, stickers, or small toys so that children with food allergies can fully participate in the fun.
How many trick-or-treaters do you get?
We welcome an incredible crowd. In recent years, The Haunted Oaks has drawn up to 1,700 trick-or-treaters, plus their families, on Halloween night.
Can I contribute or get involved?
Absolutely. We host community candy drives and sponsorship initiatives to support the event’s growth and help neighbors keep up with the massive demand for treats. Keep an eye on our community updates for ways you can donate candy or sign up as an event sponsor.
